At least with a LAN, the business can continue even if their Internat facing systems are DoSed. People relying on just G-Mail found out that not having it available and not having any control could be a real problem.
This will require a paradigm shift as far as security, and a lot of other things as well. Based on the gmail outage, I think we are not ready yet. That's the thing about security. It's protecting a moving target.
